Two Mustangs of the 357th Fighter Group in 1:72 scale: the machine 44-14519 with the code B6-R and the machine 44-14722 with the code G4-N.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 357th Fighter Group became the first unit of the Eighth Air Force armed with Mustangs and during 1944 its pilots were credited with hundreds of victories. The sheet brings markings for two of its aircraft. The first carries serial number 44-14519, the code B6-R and the name Daisy Mae, connected with the pilot Allen K. Abner of the 363rd Squadron. The second is 44-14722 with the code G4-N and the name Temptation, flown by Lieutenant Matthew S. Martin.
The codes B6 and G4 told the individual squadrons within the group apart, so the pair on one sheet shows two different parts of the same unit at once. The machines could also differ in small things in their armament or in the color of the propeller spinner, which is a detail that pleases on a model.
The make-up of both subjects is rewarding for a display case too. Side by side the differing personal names and the same type basis stand out, so it is immediately apparent how each crew adapted their aircraft.
Decals with pointed projections, such as letters with sharp corners, bend easily against the edge of tweezers. It pays to handle them with a flat brush and to lay them straight from the paper onto the model. If a corner folds over, leave a drop of water on it for a while and straighten it with the point of a toothpick while the film is still pliable.
