The point of the set is to replace the plastic part from the box with a finished part carrying rendered instruments and lettering, which is simply dropped into the cockpit and needs no laborious painting and no decals. In the small 1:72 scale it is precisely the instrument panel that is most visible through the clear canopy, so it is one of the accessories with the best ratio of work to effect. The North American P-51D Mustang was an American single-engine fighter of the Second World War, powered by a liquid-cooled V12 engine. The D version was recognizable by its bubble canopy with the lowered rear fuselage spine, which gave the pilot all-round vision. The cockpit of the P-51D had a characteristic instrument panel with a dark surface and the instruments arranged in several rows — and that is the subject of this set. The P-51D model is among the most built fighters of all, and a wide range of accessories exists for it.
Cut or sand the original plastic panel from the box down flat, so that the new panel sits in the right position and does not lift the canopy. Try dry whether the fuselage can be closed once the panel is in. Glue the part in spots, ideally with a low-wicking super glue or with a glue for clear parts that leaves no clouding. Do not coat the finished surface of the panel all over with matte varnish — you would lose the contrast of the instruments. Darken the cockpit around the panel, so that it stands out optically once the canopy is closed.
