Masks for the glazing of the Swedish Saab J-35F Draken interceptor in 1:72 scale. Die-cut for the parts of the Hasegawa kit, single-sided version for spraying from the outside.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Swedes built an aircraft with a wing nobody had tried before: the inner section has a very sharp sweep angle and the outer one markedly less, so the outline recalls a dragon from a fairy tale. It first took to the air in 1955 and from the start it was designed to be able to operate from closed-off stretches of road if the enemy broke up the airfields. A small group of reservists with ordinary tools could manage the maintenance.
The letter F belonged to the main interceptor version. It received a powerful airborne radar and guided missiles produced in Sweden under license, with which it could hit a target at a distance and in poorer visibility too. With the Swedish Air Force the type lasted until the end of the 1990s and further aircraft served in Denmark, Finland and Austria, where the last of them were still flying after 2000.
The canopy of the Draken in 1:72 scale is tiny and its framing consists of just a few narrow strips. That is precisely why tracing by hand is so thankless, because every irregularity is doubly apparent on a small area. The die-cut shapes follow the parts of the Hasegawa kit and are laid straight onto the clear part. The time saved counts in hours rather than minutes, because the subsequent correction of places where the paint has run also falls away.
This is a single-sided version. Press the film down around its whole perimeter, otherwise a channel will form under the edge and the lacquer will run through it. Apply it lightly and several times over rather than heavily, and remove the mask as soon as the surface stops being tacky to the touch. The package does not contain paints or plastic parts.
