A photo-etched accessory intended to replace the plastic grilles over the cooling openings on the rear deck of the German Panther tank in 1:72 scale. The set is cut for the Dragon plastic kit and does not contain the vehicle itself. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Hauler.
The grilles over the cooling openings of the engine compartment are the most conspicuous place on Panther models where plastic gives itself away. In reality it is a thin mesh you can see through; in the kit it is a solid casting with a suggested texture, which seen from above reads as a closed plate. A photo-etched grille has real openings, so you can look into the engine compartment, the depth of the vehicle is optically increased and the surface stops reading as flat. It is one of the few accessories whose effect is visible even from a normal distance in a cabinet.
Cut the plastic grille off the rear deck with a scalpel and clean up the opening so that the photo-etched part sits flush. If you do not want the recess to look empty, paint the inside matte black or glue a thin piece of black paper under the grille; an imitation shadow works reliably. Degrease the metal grille before gluing, go over it with a base for metal once fitted and apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats straight from above, otherwise the fine openings will clog. Dust and leaves in the grille can be suggested with pigments right at the end.
It is not a kit of a vehicle but an accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
