This is a supplementary resin set, not an aircraft model. It contains parts for the radar placed on the wing of the PBJ-1H aircraft in 1:72 scale. The PBJ-1H is the naval designation of the twin-engined medium bomber Mitchell in the H version, which in the United States Marine Corps served on patrol and anti-shipping duties. That is precisely why radar equipment in a housing carried outside the fuselage appeared on these machines. The set adds this conspicuous feature to a model that does not have it in its basic form.
The designation PBJ was used by the US Navy and the Marine Corps for machines derived from the twin-engined medium bomber Mitchell. The PBJ-1H version followed on from the variant with heavily strengthened forward armament and was deployed above all in the Pacific against shipping and coastal targets. For finding targets over water these aircraft received radar whose antenna was hidden in a separate housing carried on the wing. The silhouette of the machine changes markedly by it and it gives a model a character an ordinary bomber does not have.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the area wet with your airways protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Try the fit dry first; the radar housing is conspicuous on the wing and any rotation or tilt shows at once. Use a primer before painting. The housing tends to differ in material, so feel free to give it a slightly different shade or a different degree of gloss from the surrounding skin; the model gains in credibility by it.
This is a supplementary set, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
