1:72 Pig

What this item is

A pig in 1:72 scale, that is, in the scale in which most aircraft models and a good part of military hardware are built. The figure is a diorama accessory, so it is aimed at scene builders rather than at collectors of stand-alone figures. An adult pig measures about a meter and a half, so converted to this scale the animal comes out roughly two centimeters long. The same series also brings further farm animals, some of them in several scales, so a scene can grow step by step.

Where the animal fits in a scene

A farm, a village green, a field track or the edge of a village with a column driving through gain from a farm animal a calm that contrasts with the hardware. At the same time the viewer grasps the scale of the whole scene at once from the familiar size of the animal. A pig has a natural reason to be standing by a pigsty, by a pen, by a pile of straw or by a puddle in front of a gate; it fits the setting of a field airfield in the countryside just as well as a classic village scene.

Building and painting tips

Pick the glue to suit the material of the part: cyanoacrylate for resin and metal, solvent cement for plastic models for polystyrene. Wash and degrease the part before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold. In this scale work sparingly: a light base shade, a darker tone rubbed into the recesses and a light dry brush along the back are enough, as fine detail is lost from a distance. Leave the snout and the trotters darker, and carry the shade of the base onto the lower part of the legs, so that the animal visually belongs to the ground.
