An injection-molded plastic kit of the Piper PA-47 PiperJet light jet aircraft in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Amodel. It is an unusual machine from the very light jet category, marked by a single engine housed at the rear by the vertical tail surface. The kit is short-run and is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The PiperJet came about at a time when makers of light aircraft were trying to offer owners of piston machines a simple step up to jet propulsion. The design was based on a proven fuselage with a roomy cabin, to which a single jet engine high at the rear was added, along with tail surfaces arranged in the shape of a T. A prototype flew, but the program was later reworked and finally ended, so the type did not reach series production. For a collection it is a representative of the short era of very light jets.
The engine placed high at the rear shifts the center of gravity backward, so count on a nose weight and try the model dry before the fuselage is glued together. The engine fairing and its transition to the vertical tail surface tend to be the most demanding place to fill, so work in thin layers and sand back wet. The large cockpit glazing can be seen into, so an interior that is at least suggested pays off. A gloss white surface with colored lines calls for a perfectly smooth ground, and the lines are usually easier as decals. Glue the landing gear and the small aerials on at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
