Plastic crates 1:72 from Hauler are a diorama accessory: small boxes and crates with which the cargo bed of a vehicle, a warehouse or the corner of a scene is filled.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of small crates in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Hauler, intended for builders of dioramas and vignettes. It is not a kit but equipment for a scene: cargo that is stacked on a cargo bed, set in a warehouse, at a loading dock, or left lying by a wall.
An empty cargo bed or an empty corner of a scene is the most frequent reason a diorama looks unfinished. Cargo, by contrast, creates action, as the viewer concludes that something is being hauled, unloaded or stored. Crates also have the advantage of a regular shape: they can be stacked, lined up in rows or left untidily tipped over, so one set yields a different composition every time. They also work as filler that masks a less successful spot on a model.
Paint the crates before you glue them into stacks, as otherwise you will not reach the lower pieces. Choose a lower saturation of the shade than a real crate has, as a small scale optically intensifies color. Credibility is helped a great deal by not making all the pieces the same: leave a few more faded and one or two in a markedly different shade. A dark wash will run between the ribs and the edges and the shape will stand out at once; drybrushing in a lighter tone will pick out the upper surfaces. Finally even the surface out with a matte varnish and dust the lower parts lightly with pigment to suit the surface they stand on.
This is a diorama accessory, not a kit. Paints, glue and the base are not included in the package.
