About product

Polish light tank 7TP – metal barrel and horn 1:72 (MASTER)

This is not a kit of a tank but a metal detailing accessory for a model in 1:72 scale. The set contains a turned brass barrel of the Bofors anti-tank gun of 37 mm caliber in the wz.36 version and a signal horn. It is exactly these two small items that look worst on plastic sprues in a small scale: the barrel tends to be split and once the mold seam has been sanded off it loses its roundness, while the horn is so small that its shape cannot be held in a mold. Turned metal has a hollow muzzle, a straight axis and sharp edges.

The real subject

The 7TP was a Polish light tank of the 1930s, starting from the British Vickers design built under license, which Polish engineers modified above all by installing a diesel engine. It was produced in a form with two machine gun turrets and in the later, more widespread version with one turret armed with the Bofors anti-tank gun of 37 mm caliber. That gun was among the effective weapons of its category in its day. The tank was committed to action in 1939.

Fitting and tips

Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the mantlet as possible, level the area and clean the hole out with a fine drill bit, so that the metal part sits on the axis. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) drop by drop applied with a toothpick; glue for plastic does not hold on metal. In 1:72 scale the parts are very small, so work with tweezers over a tray with a raised edge. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray it with a primer; the horn is usually better painted separately and glued on at the end.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Polish interwar equipment in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who are bothered by a split plastic barrel and indistinct small parts
  • Collectors of light tanks of the 1930s
  • More experienced modelers used to working with very small metal parts

This is an accessory, not a model of a tank. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a turned metal barrel and a horn that replace the plastic parts on a model in 1:72 scale you have already bought.

We recommend dry fitting the part and adjusting the diameter of the hole with a drill bit.

It has a hollow muzzle, an exactly round cross-section and it does not twist. A plastic barrel is split and once the mold seam has been removed it is never perfectly round again.

In 1:72 scale they are very small components. Tweezers, a sharp knife and working over a tray so that a part is not lost all pay off.
