Responsibility details are not available.
A set of die-cut self-adhesive vinyl masks in 1:72 scale for spraying British aircraft roundels of type B. The marking is not applied but sprayed: the masks are stuck on one after another and overpainted, so the insignia is created directly in the finish and has no carrier film the way a decal does. Besides the round insignia the set also holds masks for the fin flashes. The package holds one sheet.
Type B is the simplified, less conspicuous roundel made up only of a red center and a blue outer circle, that is without the white ring and without the yellow outer ring. It was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War to reduce visibility on camouflaged upper wing and fuselage surfaces, where light colors would have given away the position of the aircraft from above. The B.1 variant differs from the basic form in the proportions of the color circles. The combination of type B on the upper surfaces and lighter types on the lower surfaces is among the typical features of British machines of the war period.
The model has to be smoothly sprayed, degreased and fully cured before masking. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers, lay them in place and press the edges down thoroughly, so that no paint runs under the film. Work in layers from the lighter color to the darker one and let each of them dry properly; apply the paint thinly, because a heavy coat leaves a ridge at the edge. Lift the mask off shortly after it has dried, pulling sideways at an angle. A gloss base limits paint creeping under better than a rough matte surface and makes sharp edges on the finished marking easier.
The package holds masking film only. The paints and the model are not included in the package.
