A decal sheet with the code letters of the Royal Air Force in dull red, for models of bombers of the Second World War in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Royal Air Force marked its machines with a pair of letters for the squadron and one letter for the particular aircraft. On night bombers these letters were applied in dull red, which barely showed up on dark camouflage and blended in at a distance. The shade and the size of the lettering differed by period and by type of machine, so the characters are often what tells one aircraft from another within the same squadron on a model.
The sheet carries separate code letters in dull red for 1:72 scale. The number in the name distinguishes the size of the letters within the range, so you choose the sheet matching your subject. You put the set of letters together yourself according to the machine you are building, which is an advantage over a ready sheet for one particular aircraft: one sheet covers several variants.
Cut the letter out as closely as possible and soak it in lukewarm water until it begins to release from the backing. Clear-coat the area of the model with gloss varnish beforehand, so that no air is trapped under the decal and no matte outline appears around the character. Slide the letter into place, press the water out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges and let it dry. On a broken surface, decal softener helps; use it according to the instructions on its packaging. Go over the finished area with matte varnish.
The model, the paints, the varnishes and the glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
