Behind every machine that takes to the air stands the ground personnel. The technical support escadron kept under the number ESTA 15.004 recalled ten years since its establishment in 2017, and for the anniversary the two-seat Rafale B with the code 4-FP received special artwork. The department of Haute-Marne in the name refers to the region the unit works in. The edition is limited to three hundred sheets.
The two-seat form is as long as the single-seat one, that is 15.27 m, and in a model it therefore comes out at 21.2 cm as well. What sets them apart is the lengthened canopy and the differently shaped spine behind it. For exactly that reason a two-seat example cannot be conjured up by sticking this sheet onto a single-seat shell; you need a casting with longer glazing and a second seat.
The two-seat variant tends to be rarer in 1:72 than the single-seat one, but it holds its place on offer. Before buying, check whether the package promises the letter B, or whether it carries parts for both forms. The interior of the cabin is seen noticeably better under a long canopy, so time devoted to the instrument panels and the harnesses pays off.
The frames of the glazing are barely half a millimeter wide in this ratio. Anyone painting them with a brush should thin the paint more than is usual and apply it in two goes. A thick application rounds the edge off and the whole cabin then looks clumsy, even if the rest of the model were done faultlessly.
