Landing gear bay masks for a model of the American RF-101C Voodoo reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale, cut for the Hasegawa kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo was an American twin-engine jet aircraft of the 1950s, recognizable by the long slender fuselage and the high-set elevator at the top of the fin. The RF-101C version was a reconnaissance one: in place of armament it carried photographic equipment in a rebuilt nose, and in the 1960s it was among the busiest machines of its kind. The long pointed nose precisely makes the Voodoo a model that even a layman recognizes on a shelf.
The masks cover the openings of the landing gear bays so that no paint drift gets into them while the fuselage and the wing are sprayed. The inside of a bay thus stays in the shade you gave it and the edge of an opening stays sharp. The cut matches the shapes of the bays on the Hasegawa kits in 1:72 scale.
First spray the inside of the bays and let it dry properly. Then degrease the surface around an opening, seat the mask and press the edges down with a blunt toothpick, so that paint does not run under them. Spray the outer surfaces thinly and in several passes. Take the mask off shortly after spraying, while the finish has not hardened completely, pulling it back over itself at a sharp angle. If a mask seats on a part with a small overhang, even it out with a sharp blade before applying it.
For modelers who build American jet aircraft in 1:72 scale and do not want to spend an evening stuffing scraps of paper into bays. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
