A Dead Design masking set for models of the reconnaissance Phantoms RF-4C and RF-4E in 1:72 scale. The templates are stuck onto the clear part and leave only the frame of the cabin uncovered, so after spraying the glazed areas stay clean.
The Phantom has a tandem cabin, that is, two seats one behind the other and a canopy divided into several parts. There is consequently twice as much frame as on a single-seat fighter, and to that the bars between the two spaces are added. Tape cut by hand takes a lot of time here and one inaccurate strip is enough to make the result act as disorderly. Pre-cut masks give all the frames the same width and the same edge.
First wash and degrease the clear part. Lift the masks with tweezers, settle them dry and press the edges down, especially in the places where the canopy runs into a curve. The shade of the interior of the frame follows, then the base and the top color of the airframe. Make the coats thin. Once it has dried, take the masks off slowly and at a sharp angle, with divided canopies piece by piece, so that the finish on the neighboring part does not lift. Remains of the adhesive layer on the glazing are removed by gentle polishing with a clear paste, which at the same time evens out small scratches from handling.
