This etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard adds fine metal detail to a plastic kit of the RF-4C Phantom II in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces and sharpens selected plastic parts of the kit. Sets of this kind usually cover the elements of the cockpit — the instrument panels, seat belts, levers and small covers — etched in thin metal of a kind that injection-molded plastic cannot capture in a small scale.
The RF-4C Phantom II is the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version of the American twin-engine two-seat Phantom II fighter. It differs from the combat versions in a lengthened nose with reconnaissance equipment and cameras in place of the radar and gun armament. It served with the US Air Force as a tactical reconnaissance machine for several decades.
Etched parts are cut from the fret, bent along the pre-scored lines and bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on larger surfaces a two-part epoxy helps. Tweezers, a photo-etch bending tool and patience are recommended — the set is meant for more experienced modelers.
This is a detail accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
