An injection-molded plastic model of the British experimental rocket fighter prototype Saunders-Roe SR.53 in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Kovozavody Prostejov. The model captures this unusual machine with its mixed powerplant and offers a detailed cockpit interior and decals for two color variants.
The Saunders-Roe SR.53 was a British interceptor prototype of the 1950s with a mixed powerplant: it combined an Armstrong Siddeley Viper turbojet with a de Havilland Spectre rocket engine. The machine was to climb quickly to approaching bombers on rocket power and return to base after the attack on the economical jet engine. Two prototypes flew and reached a speed of about Mach 1.3. The project was canceled after defense policy turned to guided anti-aircraft missiles; one of the machines survives in a museum.
Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic; with this kit it pays to clean the parts up first and dry-fit them. Paint and shade the cockpit before the fuselage is closed. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush; the smooth gloss finish of the prototype calls for a good base free of scratches.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
