This photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard adds fine metal detail to the plastic kit of the Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory that replaces and refines selected plastic parts of the kit. Sets of this kind usually cover interior and exterior features - the instrument panel, seat belts, levers and small covers - etched into thin metal of a kind injection-molded plastic cannot capture in a small scale.
The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was an American carrier dive bomber of the Second World War, which replaced the older Dauntless in the Navy. It was a large two-seat machine with an internal bomb bay and folding wings for carrier operation. The SB2C-4 version received perforated dive brakes and the ability to carry rockets or bombs under the wings.
The photo-etched parts are cut from the fret, bent along the pre-etched lines and bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on larger areas a two-part epoxy glue helps. Tweezers, a photo-etch bending tool and patience are recommended - the set is meant for more experienced modelers.
This is a detail accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
