It is a model intended to be glued together and painted, not a finished collector's piece. In 1:72 scale the Albatross is a fairly large model, because the subject was a twin-engine machine with a sizable boat-shaped hull and a wide span.
The HU-16 Albatross was an amphibian aircraft with a boat-shaped hull, a retractable landing gear and floats under the wings, so it could operate from water and from an ordinary runway alike. It served mainly for search and rescue at sea and in the transport and liaison role. The SHU-16B version was adapted for maritime patrol and anti-submarine service, was given a search radar in the nose and further sensor equipment, and a number of foreign users operated it. It is precisely the forward part of the fuselage that is characteristic of this version and sets it apart from the basic search and rescue machines.
On amphibian aircraft it pays to give the hull time: the boat bottom has a sharp chine edge that is easy to round off while cleaning up the seams, and at the same time it is very visible on a finished model. Glue the wing floats and their struts on only after the underside has been painted, so you can reach it with a brush and with the nozzle alike. Mask the cockpit and the windows before spraying. Metal and light naval shades forgive nothing, so treat the model with a primer first and smooth the surface properly. Use a gloss varnish before the decals and a matte one after them. Emphasize the panel lines only at the end.
