A decal sheet in 1:72 scale for models of the Italian three-engine aircraft Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero from the period of the Spanish Civil War. The sheet is an accessory for marking a model; it neither replaces nor contains a kit.
The SM.79 Sparviero was an Italian three-engine low-wing monoplane of mixed construction from steel tubing, wood and fabric. It came about in the mid-1930s originally as a fast transport aircraft and in that guise it recorded several long-distance and speed achievements; a bomber version with a characteristic dorsal hump above the cockpit was subsequently derived from the civil design. In the Spanish conflict of the second half of the 1930s the type was committed by the Italian air units sent to Spain and was among the faster bomber machines there. The Sparviero stayed in Italian service in the following decade as well, where it found use above all as a torpedo bomber.
A three-engine aircraft has large flat areas on the fuselage as well as on the wing, so there tend to be extensive motifs on the sheet. These must not be transferred onto a dry surface: leave a layer of water on the model, let the decal slide onto it and only then press the water out with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. Around the engine nacelles and the leading edges the surface is curved in two directions, and there a stronger softener and patience help; never stretch the film by force. The base has to be glossy. Wipe the residues of adhesive off with a damp cloth once dry, otherwise they will show as patches under a matte overcoat. Apply weathering and a wash only after the protective overcoat.
The decals are an accessory, not a model. A kit, paints, clear coat and softener are not included in the package.
