An injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb in tropical configuration (Trop) in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. The model belongs to the line with a simplified breakdown of few large parts, where the fuselage and the lower wing form large assemblies. The package contains engraved surface texture, a simple cockpit, a rotating three-blade propeller, a clear cockpit canopy and decals. The characteristic mark of the tropical version is the dust filter under the nose, which sets the machine apart from European Spitfires.
The Spitfire is among the best-known fighters of the Second World War and its elliptical wing is instantly recognizable. The Mk.V version was the most numerous, and the b variant carried mixed armament of machine guns and 20 mm cannons. The tropical configuration added a filter against dust over the supercharger air intake and was intended for use in North Africa and the Mediterranean, where sand otherwise quickly ruined engines.
Secure the joints with thin cement for plastic, which flows by capillary action. A filler primer before painting will pick out the engraving and even out the surface. An airbrush works well for the desert camouflage, and you can fine-tune the small details with a brush. Glue the bulky dust filter under the nose carefully, because it markedly determines the profile of the tropical version.
