This resin detail set from the Aires brand brings a completely reworked cockpit interior of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIV fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not a model of the airplane, but an accessory for experienced modelers that replaces the simplified plastic cockpit from an ordinary kit with a faithful replica with sharp cast detail. Sets of this type are usually completed by small photo-etched parts and instrument films.
The Spitfire Mk. XIV was one of the most capable versions of the legendary British fighter. Instead of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the machine was powered by a mighty Rolls-Royce Griffon twelve-cylinder with a five-blade propeller, which gave it a markedly higher speed and rate of climb. At the end of the Second World War it proved itself among other things in intercepting fast targets and in the formations of the tactical air force over the continent.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off carefully with a saw and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Before painting the cockpit, try the fit dry; resin may call for small adjustments of the mating surfaces.
The set is supplied as a kit of resin, unassembled and unpainted. It is not a model of the airplane, but an accessory to a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
