About product

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.18e (1:72, AZ Model)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the late version of the legendary British Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the Mk.XVIII (Mk.18) variant with the e-type wing in 1:72 scale from AZ Model. The package contains plastic parts, a clear cockpit part with an all-round view and a decal sheet. The kit follows on from this maker's series of Griffon-powered Spitfires.

The real subject

The Spitfire Mk.XVIII was one of the last development versions of the famous fighter, powered by the strong Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Against the early Spitfires it had a strengthened structure, a bubble canopy with an excellent view and a modified wing. Fighter as well as photo-reconnaissance versions came about, and they served in the postwar period with the Royal Air Force and overseas.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue them with liquid cement for plastic. Mask the bubble canopy carefully. Griffon-powered Spitfires have a more pronounced nose with a large propeller; apply a gloss varnish before the decals. We recommend a primer and covering with an airbrush for even postwar camouflage schemes.

Who the model is for

  • Fans of the Spitfire and its late versions
  • Collectors of British aircraft in 1:72
  • Modelers interested in postwar service
  • Intermediate builders

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
