A photo-etched set of parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the British Spitfire Mk.I fighter, carried for the IBG kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production rendition of the British fighter which in the Second World War became the symbol of the defense of the islands. The thin wing of elliptical plan gave the aircraft an unmistakable outline and carried eight 7.7 mm machine guns. The machine was aerodynamically very clean for its day, which on a model shows in the fact that every detail added is immediately visible.
Photo-etched metal completes elements on a model which injection-molded plastic cannot provide at a matching thickness. At 1:72 scale that is often the difference between a suggestion and legible detail. The set is carried for the IBG kit of the same scale in the Mk.I version; an overview of the parts and their placing on the model is described in the enclosed instructions, which it pays to follow from the start of the build.
Get ready a sharp blade, a hard mat and tweezers with fine points; a bending tool will make the work markedly easier, but a metal straightedge will serve too. Never snap the pieces out, as they will twist. Meter the super glue with a pin, as any excess will run over the surface and leave a matte mark. Degrease and prime the metal before painting, otherwise the paint rubs off the smooth surface. Work over a mat with a raised edge, as at this scale a dropped piece is practically lost. Work through the parts one at a time, not in groups.
The photo-etched parts alone are supplied. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
