Bilek 1:72 Spitfire Mk.IX is a photo-etched accessory set from the Czech manufacturer for detailing a model of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale intended to add to a plastic model of the Spitfire Mk.IX. It is not a kit — the model is obtained separately. At this scale photo-etched parts are the simplest way to get elements into a model that injection-molded plastic cannot render at true thickness: the instrument panel, the seat with its harness, the stiffeners and frames in the cockpit, radiator grilles and small covers on the airframe. The particular contents of the sheet and the number of parts are shown by the illustration of the set.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a response to the appearance of new enemy fighters — a more powerful two-stage supercharged Merlin engine went into the proven airframe of the earlier versions. The hallmarks are a longer nose and a pair of exhaust groups, and on some machines also different shapes of wing and canopy. The version was built in large numbers and served with the British and Allied air forces, including Czechoslovak squadrons, so it offers a wide range of finishes.
Separate the parts on a hard surface with a sharp scalpel and make the folds in a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. Degrease the metal before gluing and glue with cyanoacrylate glue, or preferably epoxy for load-bearing parts. Always apply a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on metal. First cut away the plastic originals that the photo-etched parts replace and sand the surface. Fit and paint the cockpit interior before closing the fuselage.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
