A plastic kit from the French brand Heller in the classic 1:72 scale. The model is a late version of the British Supermarine Spitfire fighter, specifically the Mk.XVI form with the wing designated by the letter e. It is a straightforward kit for ordinary building, which can be built straight from the box and which also suits as a basis for accessories, for example photo-etched seat belts for the cockpit or a metal pitot tube.
The Spitfire Mk.XVI was in essence identical with the Mk.IX version, but it was powered by a Merlin engine built under license in the United States. Designating the wing with the letter e means mixed armament, that is, a pair of 20 mm cannons complemented by heavy machine guns, unlike the earlier arrangement with a greater number of 7.7 mm machine guns. The version came about at the close of the Second World War and some of the aircraft had a cut-down rear fuselage with a bubble canopy, which offered a markedly better view to the rear.
Snip the parts off and clean them up; with older molds expect fine puttying of the seams on the fuselage and the leading edges. Paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage. Apply the paints in thin coats, so that the fine engraving is not clogged. Before the decals, go over the model with a gloss coat, settle the decals with a decal softener and at the end unify the surface with a matte coat. Masks for the glazing are a suitable accessory and make the canopy framing easier to manage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
