Armory 1:72 SR-71A Blackbird – early type wheels with bulged tires is a resin replacement set of landing gear wheels for the reconnaissance aircraft kit in 1:72.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin add-on set of wheels for the kit of the SR-71A Blackbird strategic reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72. It is not an airplane model but a replacement for the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast with a bulge where they touch the ground, and according to the name this is the early pattern of wheel.
The Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird was an American two-seat reconnaissance aircraft capable of long flights above Mach 3 at great altitude. The airframe was predominantly titanium, because it heated up severely in flight. Each main gear leg carried three wheels, which retracted into the fuselage. Because of the thermal loads the tires were impregnated with aluminum powder and had a conspicuously light silver-gray shade, a detail that often gets overlooked when a model is painted.
Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap and get the mold release agent off them. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the contact faces so that all the wheels on a leg lie on the same plane. In 1:72 the castings are small, so work with tweezers over a surface and with good light. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, sanded wet and with your airways protected, and primed before painting. Use a light gray with a metallic cast on the tires instead of black, and bring out the hub with an aluminum shade and a fine wash. Keep the dusting discreet.
This is an add-on set, not a model kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
