The real subject

The Su-24 was a Soviet twin-engine tactical bomber with variable wing geometry and a crew of two seated side by side. It was created for flight low over the terrain and for attacks on ground targets in any weather, which is what its terrain-following radar served. A takeoff weight of over thirty tons meant a heavy load for the landing gear, so the wheels and their tires are robust and clearly visible on the finished model. The type was built in several versions, including a reconnaissance one, and served in a number of countries even after the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Use and building tips

• wash the parts in warm soapy water before gluing, so that mold release residue disappears
• cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, do not snap them off
• cyanoacrylate glue belongs on resin; cement for plastic does not hold here
• sand only wet and with respiratory protection, as resin dust must not be inhaled
• spray a primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth casting
