A precise injection-molded plastic kit of the most widespread version of the legendary Spitfire in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. The model allows both the standard European Mk.Vb version and the tropical Mk.Vb Trop variant with the enlarged dust filter under the engine to be built. The box holds parts for different cockpit forms (the front and rear sections of the canopy) and a display stand.
The Spitfire Mk.Vb was the backbone of the Royal Air Force fighter force in 1941 and 1942 and was built in large numbers. It was powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and its wing carried a pair of 20mm cannons supplemented by machine guns. The tropical version with its characteristic filter served above all in the Mediterranean and in North Africa, where it protected the engine from sand and dust.
Tamiya parts fit excellently; even so, test the joints dry beforehand. Apply a primer, spray the camouflage with an airbrush and handle the color transitions on the upper surfaces of the wings with a soft mask. Bring out the engraved panels with a dark wash and apply a gloss clear coat under the decals for perfect adhesion. On the tropical version do not forget the correct shape of the dust filter.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
