In small scales wheels tend to be the weak point even of otherwise successful kits: the parting line runs across the tread and the pattern of the tire is lost. This set by the brand Aires offers replacement landing gear wheels for the American carrier torpedo bomber TBM Avenger and, according to its name, adds masks with which the hub is separated from the rubber without a shaking hand.
The Avenger was the largest single-engine carrier machine of the Second World War. It flew from American aircraft carriers in the Pacific, it had an internal bomb bay for a torpedo, a dorsal gun turret and a crew of three. The letter in the designation TBM refers to production at General Motors, which took over series construction after the original factory switched to another type. The machines served after the war as well with a number of other users, among other things in the antisubmarine and firefighting roles.
First rinse the parts and dry them so that nothing from the production process is left on the surface. Stick the mask down exactly along the edge of the hub, press it with a toothpick and apply the paint in thin layers; with a heavy layer it will creep underneath. Leave the tire matte and only lightly dusted, as glossy rubber looks unnatural. Attach the wheels with cyanoacrylate and check beforehand that the model stands level on all three points.
