The accessory 1:72 Traditional Vietnamese hat is modeling equipment, not a kit. It is a scaled-down traditional Vietnamese conical piece of headgear in 1:72 scale, which modelers use to complete figures and to bring scenes from Southeast Asia to life. A single such hat can determine the place of the action in a scene more reliably than a whole range of other props. The same subject is also made in further scales.
A conical hat woven from leaves is common headgear in Southeast Asia, especially in the countryside. It protects against sun and rain alike, is held on the head by a chin strap, and its simple conical shape is so characteristic that it is recognizable at first glance even in miniature. In dioramas it appears on civilian figures, at markets, at work in the fields and as a set-aside prop in a scene.
Separate the part with a sharp scalpel on a cutting mat, not with pliers. Cut the residues left from manufacture off and sand the surface down with the finest sandpaper, so that the hat seats on the figure's head. Degrease the surface before painting. Paint it before gluing rather than after: a light straw base, a fine wash into the recesses to accentuate the weave and light toning to achieve a worn look. Use super glue to attach it, as ordinary glue for plastic usually does not hold on such a small area.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The figure, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
