A masking set for a model of the Tu-160 strategic bomber in 1:72 scale. The items are pre-cut and applied before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set makes painting the transparent parts and other surfaces that are to stay free of paint easier. The items are cut to shape in advance, so there is no need to measure and cut tape directly on the model. On the Tu-160 that pays off twice over: the aircraft has extensive cockpit glazing with a great many frames, and masking such an area by hand takes more time than the spraying itself.
The Tu-160 is a Soviet and later Russian supersonic strategic bomber with a variable-sweep wing. It is among the largest aircraft of its kind and its slender white silhouette is unmistakable. In 1:72 scale it makes an extensive model on which it pays to have the painting well prepared, because a mistake on a large light surface is visible from far off.
The masks are stuck on before spraying, never onto a finished coat. Wash and degrease the transparent parts first, otherwise the tape will not hold. Lift the items with tweezers, seat them in place and press the edges down properly so that paint cannot seep under them. Apply the paint in thin coats at right angles to the edge of the mask. Lift the mask once the paint has dried, while the coat has not yet hardened completely, and by drawing it along the surface at an acute angle.
The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Which kit the masks are cut for should be checked against the manufacturer's information.
