Hauler 1:72 umbrellas, 2 pieces is a small photo-etched set for bringing dioramas and display cabinets to life. From a flat metal part the modeler shapes an open umbrella in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small accessory that has an unexpectedly large effect on the resulting scene. The package contains photo-etched parts for two umbrellas, that is exactly what the name of the product states. An umbrella is a detail that immediately gives a scene a civilian dimension and a story: waiting at a stop, rain over a market, a walk along a city street. An open umbrella in this scale meanwhile practically cannot be made in plastic, because the covering would have to be thinner than a tenth of a millimeter.
Photo-etching can create a flat part a few hundredths of a millimeter thick and still keep the engraving of the ribs and the seams. That is exactly what is needed on an umbrella: the covering should be paper-thin and the ribs visible. Metal also keeps the shape you bend it into, so an open dome will stay exactly as you shape it.
Cut the part out with a scalpel on a hard surface and before shaping anneal it lightly over a flame, which softens the metal. Shape the dome gradually on a round surface, best over the rounded end of a brush or in a hollow in wood, running the pressure from the edge toward the center. The shaft can be added from thin wire. Spray the degreased part with a base coat and paint it with acrylic, as a saturated uniform area looks better than an attempt at a pattern. A light wash around the ribs will emphasize the structure.
This is an accessory for a diorama. Figures, the base, glue and paints are not included in the package.
