A small add-on set with miniatures of American ammunition for the 105 mm howitzer in 1:72 scale. It serves to complete a model or a diorama you have already built; neither the gun nor a vehicle is in the package. The same range also carries miniatures of empty cartridge cases and transport containers that follow on from this set, so an artillery position can be equipped as a whole.
The American 105 mm howitzer was one of the most widespread artillery weapons of the Second World War and the postwar years, both in towed form and on self-propelled chassis. Ammunition laid out at the gun, stored in crates or handled by the crew is therefore a rewarding diorama subject. In 1:72 scale such parts are too small to make yourself, and ready-made castings cut the work down dramatically.
Separate the castings with a sharp knife and level the marks left by parting with fine sandpaper. A base color evens the surface out and improves adhesion. The cases are traditionally painted in a brass shade and the shell bodies in an ammunition shade; the contrast between them makes a small part in 1:72 scale look bigger. Cyanoacrylate glue holds on resin and on plastic and is more reliable at these sizes than a thin plastic cement. Rounds arranged at the gun look better with a discreet layer of dust pigments.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a standalone kit. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
