A tow bar is the bar by which an aircraft is connected to a tug when it has to be moved across a deck, across an apron or into a hangar. One end fits onto the landing gear and the other onto the hook of the tug; once the move is over the crew unhooks it and leaves it lying beside the machine. The package holds two pieces, so it will serve even for a scene with a pair of aircraft.
Most of all on the deck of an aircraft carrier and in a hangar, where machines with no power of their own are being moved practically all the time. The accessory does its job even if you simply lay it on the ground next to the model, though: a small thing that cannot be missing on a base gives a scene scale and action. Before gluing, hold the part against the landing gear of the model you are building and compare the shape of the attachment.
Cut excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest, so that you do not break the thin bar. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on so small an area a single drop really is enough. Handling equipment on decks tended to be conspicuously colorful so that it could be seen in service, and it wore quickly; check the shade and the degree of wear against references for the period you are building.
For builders of carrier aircraft and for diorama makers who put a scene together out of small things. A pair of bars also lets you show both: one connected to an aircraft during a move and the other set aside, as is done on deck.
