An injection-molded plastic model of the American carrier fighter F-4J Phantom II in 1:72 scale from the production of the Japanese brand FineMolds. The brand is famous for fine detail and precise fit; the kit offers a well worked cockpit, nicely rendered engine nacelles and external stores. The box contains plastic parts, clear glazing, decals and assembly instructions.
The F-4J was one of the main carrier versions of the Phantom in the service of the US Navy. Compared with the earlier versions it received more powerful engines, an improved airborne radar and flight controls which improved its behavior when landing on an aircraft carrier. It was a two-seat multirole machine capable of air combat as well as attacks on ground targets, fielded in particular in the period of the Vietnam War. The Phantom became one of the most iconic jet aircraft of the Cold War.
Glue the plastic parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic; the fine FineMolds parts will appreciate careful work and a sharp knife when they are separated from the frames. Mask the glazing before spraying. Apply a base coat (a primer) before painting and spray with an airbrush; the typical naval schemes (gray and white) will appreciate fine shading, emphasis of the panels with a wash and the discreet wear of a carrier machine.
