1:72 USAF McDonnell RF-4C Recce Phantoms Part 1 is a Caracal Models decal sheet for the reconnaissance version of the Phantom, 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet from the Caracal Models brand is devoted to the reconnaissance version of the Phantom in US Air Force service. The word Recce in the name is the shortened English term for reconnaissance. The contents of the item are decals; a plastic model is bought separately.
The RF-4C came about by converting a combat Phantom into an unarmed reconnaissance machine. The forward fuselage received an extended shape without the radar for air combat, inside were camera stations for photography from medium and low level, and a side-looking radar completed them. The crew thus flew over the target with no way to defend themselves and relied on speed and low-level flying. These machines served for decades, later mainly with reserve units, and wore a range of finishes from smooth grays to the camouflage patterns of Southeast Asia.
The elongated nose is the recognition mark of the whole version, so take care over its shape and its seams. Mask the clear covers of the camera openings before you reach for paint. Apply the decals onto a gloss surface; with the national insignia over the curved nose work slowly and use a decal softener in small doses. Southeast Asia camouflage calls for matte varnish at the end, while smooth gray finishes take semi-gloss rather.
