An injection-molded plastic kit of the American XM706E2 armored car in 1:72 scale from the brand Trumpeter. The small scale makes it a rewarding addition to a collection of wheeled vehicles and a good basis for an airfield scene as well.
The subject is a four-wheeled armored car of the Commando family with all-wheel drive, a welded armored hull and an amphibious capability. The designers went for high ground clearance, a shaped mine-resistant floor and decent road speed, because the main task was the protection of sprawling bases and convoy escort. The version designated XM706E2 differs from the army variant in that, instead of a rotating turret, it carries a raised superstructure with an open gunner's position; from it the crew covered the ground around the perimeter fence. Vehicles in this form served with security units of the US Air Force in Southeast Asia.
In 1:72 scale what counts is cleaning up the wheels neatly and seating them in line — the vehicle stands high and a wheel glued askew shows at first glance.
