This accessory set in 1:72 scale from Black Dog holds the engines of the S-3 Viking carrier aircraft. It is not an aircraft kit but detail parts which replace or complete the simplified parts of a base model. The set is intended for a builder who wants a more faithfully rendered powerplant on a model.
The Lockheed S-3 Viking served the US Navy as a carrier aircraft for anti-submarine warfare and later also as a tanker and liaison machine. It is powered by two General Electric TF34 turbofan engines housed in nacelles under the wing, the same powerplant used by the A-10 attack aircraft. On the Viking the nacelles sit low and are clearly visible, so the engines are among the details that draw the eye most on a finished model, especially when it is displayed in a carrier deck scene.
First wash the resin castings in warm soapy water to rid them of mold release residue, or paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, which crush the material. Protect your airways while sanding. The parts are joined with super glue, because cement for plastic has no effect on this material. Before gluing, always check dry how much plastic has to be taken off the base model.
