An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Vultee P-66 Vanguard fighter in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Dora Wings. It is a modern short-run kit supplemented with photo-etched parts and a masking template, which gives it fine surface detail but makes the fit more demanding, so it suits more experienced modelers. Check the actual package contents and the range of color schemes against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The Vultee P-66 Vanguard was an American single-seat fighter with a radial engine, originally developed as an export machine. In service it was used by the US Army Air Forces for training and defense and, more significantly, by the Chinese air force, to which a number of machines were delivered during the Second World War. It was a lesser known type which never saw mass combat use, which makes it all the more interesting as a subject for collectors of unusual aircraft.
With a short-run kit, count on careful cleanup of the parts, removal of flash and thorough dry-fitting before gluing. Glue the joints with a thin cement for plastic, fill the seams with putty and sand them down. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. Use the masking template supplied for a clean spray of the canopy glazing. Paint the interior and pick it out before closing the fuselage; after the gloss varnish and the decals, bring out the panel lines with a wash and add fine wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
