About product

Eduard masking set for the Vengeance Mk.II

A set of masking stencils from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Vultee Vengeance Mk.II dive bomber in 1:72 scale. The stencils are cut to the shape of the glazing of that particular model, so the tedious cutting of tape falls away and the sprayed frames come out even over their whole length.

A forgotten dive bomber

The Vengeance was created in the United States to a British order and it went into action above all in the Burma theater, where it was used by Royal Air Force squadrons and by the Indian Air Force. Characteristic is the wing with zero incidence angle, thanks to which the machine descended almost vertically in a dive. The designation Mk.II corresponds to one of the delivery batches for British users.

Advice on masking

First get the grease off the clear parts. It usually pays to underlay the frames with the shade of the cockpit and only then spray the outer camouflage, so that the area showing through does not look out of place. Cover the rest of the glazing with a piece of tape or with liquid mask, or the overspray will settle a gray veil on the glass. Once the stencils are off, cover the glass again straight away, so that sanding dust does not settle on it during the rest of the build.

Who the set is for

  • builders of Allied types from the Pacific and Burma theaters
  • modelers for whom cutting frames by hand takes the most time
  • anyone interested in less usual machines in a small scale
  • beginner and advanced users of an airbrush alike
  • collections of aircraft in British and Indian service

FAQ

It came into its own most over Burma in British and Indian hands, and further with Australian crews. In Europe it practically did not appear.

On the canopy frames yes, because they are cut exactly to shape. The remaining areas of glass still have to be covered with something.

Yes, laying the stencils down is easier than cutting accurately. All it takes is tweezers, a calm hand and thin coats of paint.
