The decals Star Decals 1:72 for the PzKpfw III tanks of the Wiking division in the Caucasus with the short as well as the long barrel, the Ausf N version and a generic set of turret numbers.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fifth sheet of the Wiking series covers PzKpfw III tanks from the Caucasus battlefield of the years 1942 to 1943. It distinguishes the Ausf J with the short barrel, the Ausf J with the long barrel and the support version Ausf N, and to these it adds generic turret numbers from zero to five.
The early examples of the Ausf J had a 5cm gun with a shorter barrel; the later runs were given a longer barrel with higher muzzle velocity and better penetration. The Ausf N version, by contrast, carried a short 7.5cm gun intended for destroying firing positions and for supporting infantry, not for tank duels. Machines with the same hull and an entirely different role on the battlefield thus stand side by side, which makes the sheet a good basis for a whole group of models. The difference in the length of the barrel is moreover clearly apparent even on a finished small model.
The generic numbers allow any combination to be put together, so watch for the same spacing on both sides and at the rear of the turret. It pays to lay the position out dry with a pencil on paper first and only then to transfer an insignia onto the model. The base must be dry and smooth, so that the edges of the numbers are not left light. Symmetrical spacing always looks more orderly on a turret than random placement.
