The second sheet of the Windhund series concentrates purely on Panther tanks. According to the name these are machines listed with Pz-Regiment 16 and with Pz-Brigade 111, that is units joined with the 116th Panzer Division at the close of 1944.
The Panther was a medium tank with steeply sloped armor and a long 7.5cm barrel of L/70 length, which gave it high penetrating power at long range. The interleaved running gear in a checkerboard layout provided a soft ride but complicated maintenance under field conditions. On the Western Front in the second half of 1944 mainly later series versions appeared and their markings tended to be austere, limited to tactical numbers and the divisional insignia. That is precisely why the credibility of a model is decided by the exact placement and size of the number, not by the quantity of drawing.
Place the turret numbers symmetrically on both sides and, before they cling, measure the position against the edge of the turret. Cut the sets with a scalpel one character at a time; with large numbers it helps to support a decal with a finger until it settles. Wipe the remains of adhesive off with a damp cloth, otherwise a matte outline will be left after the coat of varnish. Check the result against a sharp light at an angle.
