An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Yak-3 fighter in 1:72 scale. It is a new Zvezda mold laid out as snap-fit: the parts click into each other and the model can be built even without glue. The package holds a small number of parts, clear parts for the canopy and a decal sheet; the decals include schemes of the famous Normandie-Niemen regiment, as the manufacturer states. Take the exact number of parts and schemes from the actual contents of the package.
The Yak-3 appeared in 1943 and 1944 as a lightened and aerodynamically cleaned-up fighter from the design bureau of Alexander Yakovlev. It was smaller and lighter than the preceding family, with a mixed wood and metal structure and a Klimov V12 engine. It excelled in agility and climb at low and medium altitude, where it was among the best fighters of its day. French pilots of the Normandie-Niemen regiment in Soviet service flew it too.
Snap-fit joints only need to be pushed together, but for durability it is still worth securing the mating surfaces with a drop of liquid cement for plastic. Before painting, clean up the parting lines and lay down a base primer, so that the paint holds well. Soviet camouflage goes on well with an airbrush; masking tape makes the canopy frames easier. Bring out the panel lines with a fine wash, and a matte varnish will unify the surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
