1:72 Yakovlev Yak-1B is a set of self-adhesive masking stencils from Peewit for painting the glazing and other clear surfaces of a model in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is neither a kit nor a part of a model: it is a set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks that protect the cockpit glazing while spraying and leave only the frames exposed. The masks are stuck onto clean glazing, oversprayed with the frame color and peeled off once dry. The result is straight and sharp frames, which are hard to achieve with a brush.
The Yakovlev Yak-1B was a late development version of the Soviet Yak-1 fighter of the Second World War. Compared with the earlier machines it received a cut-down fuselage spine and a bubble canopy, which considerably improved the pilot's view to the rear, as well as reworked armament and a range of small airframe changes. The cut-down spine and the different shape of the canopy are the most striking differences from the older versions, and they are reflected in the shape of the cut mask as well.
Wash and degrease the glazing before sticking anything on, transfer the masks with tweezers and press them down with a wooden toothpick so that they seat all the way around the part. Spray the paint in several light coats; a heavy coat will creep under the edge and spoil the line. Peel the mask off while the paint is only touch-dry, not after several days, when it separates less easily. A damp cloth removes any adhesive residue; do not use aggressive thinners on the glazing, as they can fog or craze the clear part.
The package contains masking stencils only. The model, paints and glue are not included.
