The Unimog 411 is a range of light all-wheel-drive general-purpose trucks from Mercedes-Benz, built from the second half of the 1950s. The vehicle served in agriculture, with municipal and utility services and in military versions. Its characteristic features are portal axles and the great ground clearance under the vehicle, thanks to which the wheels and tires are markedly visible on a model — swapping them for better-shaped parts therefore shows even in a scale this small.
Separate the parts carefully, clean up the contact surfaces and always test fit them dry first; in 1:87 scale every tenth of a millimeter shows. With small parts cyanoacrylate is more reliable than ordinary plastic cement — apply it in a minimal quantity with a pin or a thin wire, so that it does not overflow onto visible surfaces. Paint the wheels before fitting, while they are freely accessible; a matte shade for the tire and a differentiated rim will do a lot of the work. Once they are fitted, check that the model stands level on all its wheels.
