Woodland Scenics static grass with a fiber length of 2 mm in a dry straw shade. It is a loose scenic material of fine synthetic fibers, which is applied onto a layer of glue and stood upright with an electrostatic applicator. It is precisely the upright fibers that make the difference against an ordinary scatter; the growth then looks believable not only from above but also from the side, that is, from the view a model is usually photographed from.
Coat the base with scenic glue or with thin PVA glue, apply the fibers into the damp layer with an applicator and let it dry perfectly. Once dry, sweep the excess off with a soft brush or vacuum it carefully through a stocking and return it to the container; the material can be used again. Without an electrostatic applicator the grass can simply be scattered, but the fibers will stay lying down and the result then resembles a scatter instead. A straw shade is rewarding in combination with green shades: applied in irregular islands over a green base it breaks up a uniform area and lends the growth depth.
For builders of dioramas, display bases and layouts in any scale; it is the length of the fiber and not the scale that decides how tall the growth will be. It also suits modelers who want to bring a base under a finished model to life in a basic way.
Keep it in a closed container away from damp. When working with an electrostatic applicator, follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the device and do not aim it near the eyes.
