A set of 3D printed cannabis plants from Green Stuff World for low vegetation on a diorama. Cannabis has an immediately recognizable palmate leaf, so a viewer identifies the plant even at a small scale.

How it differs from other vegetation

Most scenic greenery is anonymous. Nobody wonders what kind of grass or bush is on a diorama, because the greenery serves as a setting. This set does exactly the opposite: the plant is a statement in itself and gives a scene a particular context. It is used in modern civil and urban subjects, with glasshouses and grow rooms, in narrative wargaming terrain and anywhere it should be clear at once what the story is about. At the same time it is a plant of middling growth, so among the levels of vegetation it stands between the ground layer and the crowns of trees.

How it is layered

• Terrain and the ground layer come first; the plants are set into the finished ground.
• Put them in the foreground of a composition, otherwise their characteristic leaf is lost.
• Tilt them variously and do not plant them in regular rows, unless you are building a grow room.
• Add grass, soil or fine litter around the foot, so that the transition to the ground is not sharp.
• A base coat unifies the shade of the plants with the rest of the scene.
