Static grass 4 mm, straw shade

Woodland Scenics static grass with a fiber length of 4 mm in a dry straw shade. It is a loose scenery material of fine synthetic fibers that is applied into a layer of glue and stood upright with an electrostatic applicator. The longer fiber shifts the result from a tended lawn toward growth that nobody looks after: a meadow, a field margin and an overgrown verge.

Where the 4 mm length suits

• Meadows, field margins and untended ground away from buildings.
• Overgrown edges of paths, embankments and ditches.
• Dry summer and autumn scenery, where the straw shade carries the whole mood.
• Tufts and islands of taller grass on an area of short grass that is already finished.

Use

Coat the base with scenery glue or thin white glue and apply the fibers into the wet layer with an applicator. With longer fibers it pays not to hurry and to work in two passes: the first layer makes the base, the second adds, once it is dry, the irregularity that real growth has. Once dry, sweep the excess off with a soft brush or vacuum it up carefully through a stocking and return it to the container, as the material can be used again. Without an electrostatic applicator the fibers will lie down and the result looks like a sprinkling. The straw shade shows best mixed with green shades: the area then does not look uniform but varied.

Who the material is for

For builders of dioramas, model railroads and display bases in any scale. It is the fiber length, not the scale of the model, that decides the height of the growth, so 4 mm will serve just as well on a small display scene as on a large layout.

Store in a closed container away from damp. When working with an electrostatic applicator, follow the instructions of the maker of the device and do not point it anywhere near the eyes.
