A collector's resin figure from the original line of Alternity Miniatures. The figure of 54 mm is the usual height standard of collector's figures, not a scale in the form of a fraction. The 54 mm size is popular because it is big enough for proper painting of the face and the details, yet it still fits into an ordinary display case.
Resin captures even the fine features that would disappear in injected plastic, so it is worth devoting time to the surface. The parts tend to be cast with casting blocks, which have to be cut away, and with a thin parting line left by the mold.
Begin by washing the parts in lukewarm soapy water, as otherwise the remains of the mold release agent will not let the paint anchor itself. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw and level the surfaces with a file or abrasive paper, ideally wet and with protection of the airways. Do a dry test of the joints before you reach for the glue, as small gaps are then easier to fine-tune with filler. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Unify the surface with a thin layer of primer. In a size of 54 mm glazed painting comes into its own: a base tone of the skin, a gradual deepening of the shadows with thin layers and highlights taken as far as the nose, the cheekbones and the chin. Paint the eyes with a calm hand and under a magnifier, as their share in the final impression is fundamental. Distinguish cloth, leather and metal not only by color but also by the degree of sheen, as matte and satin varnish do a great deal there.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
