The Lisunov Li-2 was the Soviet licensed counterpart of the Douglas DC-3 transport aircraft. Taking the design over called for an extensive reworking of the drawing documentation to the metric system and adaptation to local manufacturing possibilities, so the machine differs from the original subject in a number of details: it was given different powerplants, a modified shape of the engine nacelles and, in the cargo rendering, different doors and interior equipment as well. It was produced in large numbers and was used in transport as well as for carrying cargo and for airborne and liaison tasks. For modelers the Li-2 is interesting precisely because, despite a similar silhouette, it differs from the DC-3 at first sight and stands up to a treatment of its own.
